The Russian Union of Street Theatres and Artists

On November 27, 2018 in Moscow was held the meeting dedicated to the launching of the Union of Street theatres in Russia. More than 100 representatives of street theaters of Moscow and Russia gathered. The meeting was attended by artists, producers, heads of festivals and theaters (including "Wandering Dolls of Mr. Pejo", "Eskizy v Prostranstve", "Teatr Vkusa", Project "Cardboardia", "Vysokie Brat;ja", "Freak Fabrik", "Theater Ex" and others).

At the meeting it was announced the launching of the Russian Union of Street Theaters.

At the moment, the Russian Union of Street Theaters is an non-formal organization that unites people who are passionate about the ideas of developing street theater in Russia and abroad.

The Union sets the task of creating and developing the culture of street theater in Russia and shaping the status of street theater, both in a professional and in a social environment.

Among the tasks that were announced at the meeting:

- making a professional community of street theaters;

- a general enhancing the quality of street performances in Russia;

- holding a series of educational seminars, meetings for professional networking;

- creation of the base for the development of educational programs in the field of street theaters for actors, directors, as well as for producers and administrators.

- creation of the opportunity to be represented at leading theater festivals, such as the Golden Mask, the Platonov Festival, etc., both in the dimension of a forum, dialogue, laboratories, and as show cases.

- creation of a common source base in the Union, which will allow to share things needed: rehearsal places or workshops, or technical equipment.

- creating a list of festivals and art residences available for street theaters in Russia;

- assistance in resolving legal and administrative issues at all the level, as an example – connected with artistic actions on the streets and other public spaces;

- the constant "spontaneous" presence of street theater in the city (not only as a part of the official events);

Also an important part of the Union's work will be a joint attempt to enter the international market.

"For about 10 years in a row I have participated in international conferences of independent and street theaters, both as as a listener and as a speaker. At these meetings and festivals, I rarely meet someone from Russia, most often I was the one Russian-speaking of several hundred meeting participants. And I think it's a good time to start it!! We are creating the Russian Union of street theaters in Russia and we will make a noticeable point of entry into the street theater of Russia "said Sergey Korsakov (Cardboardia) at the meeting.

To solve this problem, a basic information resource in Russian and English will be created with relevant and necessary information about street theaters in Russia. It is necessary to begin the search for funding for the preparation of the stand of Russian street theaters and joint participation in international fairs and forums of street theaters.In the near future, a list of members of the Union will be compiled and a community in social networks will be created, which will become a full-fledged communication platform for community members to communicate, exchange information, search for resources between members of the union. We will also begin to collect information about theaters for a website and preparing a showcase of Russian street theaters for international festivals.
